It occurred to me again as I sat in the Cadogan Hall recently listening to some Vaughan Williams and a Mozart Harp Concerto that the best design is simple, and that includes interior design and indeed music. Look at the best music in the world: U2, Coldplay, most pieces by Beethoven and Mozart. They have motifs running throughout them which are always simple, melodic, harmonious – and memorable. Such melodies are a defining point of great music.
