Glass walls
Thursday 7th June 2007 10:46 in Human Relations | 18 views logged | No commentsA lot of the women on the Underground look very stern and unhappy as they read their gossip magazines on the way to work. I wonder why…
Perhaps it is because they have misplaced value systems – this is at least suggested by their reading the junk magazines. Maybe they compare themselves with the celebrities within. Maybe they don’t like their jobs, or their looks, or their weight. (Maybe they have fallen into that vicious circle whereby they eat to feel better, and just get fatter.)
I don’t know… but while I look around the carriage with hopefully a fairly open and pleasant demeanour it is obvious that a lot of people are locked down with a self-imposed isolation. It makes for an unnecessarily cold society, and I like to cut through it wherever I can. We’re all in this together, and however bad you’ve got it, someone’s got it worse.
Brighten up! Not everyone is hostile to you…
